Material and the Body
Date: Tuesday 10th May 2016
Workshop Leaders: Dr Fiona Savage, Dr Lilian Cameron and Nell Croose Myhill
Location: Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, University of East Anglia
Whether in our own research or within an exhibition, how can the meaning of an object and our interaction with it change?
The Robert and Lisa Sainsbury Collection includes artefacts from Oceania, Africa, the Americas, Asia, the ancient Mediterranean cultures of Egypt, Greece and Rome, Medieval Europe, and a significant number of works acknowledged as seminal examples of European modern art. This predominantly figurative Collection informs academic research, public programmes and exhibitions at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts.
Focusing on ‘The Body’ as a theme, this session will explore how Sainsbury Centre staff and academics engage students and the public with this material. The workshops will also consider the impact and value of teaching and learning in a gallery environment.
Participants will also be given a tour of the centre’s current exhibition on the works of Alberto Giacometti: A Line Through Time
